Why take up Yoga?
Yoga is a powerful tool for change - it is a journey, not a destination.
The style of yoga that I teach has been developed by an osteopath and works naturally with the body.
I have been teaching Yoga since 1997 and am a Diploma Holder of the British Wheel of Yoga. My classes are mixed ability and suitable for all levels.
Some of the main aims of this yoga practice are:
- To bring the muscular skeletal system into balance.
- To integrate the mind and body.
- To adapt the poses so that they are useful to the individual.
- To create space in joints rather than compression.
- To focus on breathing and releasing tension through grounding.
- To reduce stress.
- To use minimum effort as effort creates tension which in turn creates restriction.
- To pay attention and work with full awareness.
- To inhabit your body.
- To learn to relax.
- To have fun!
If all these points are properly considered, stretching then becomes a consequence not an aim.
